Packard 400 2 DR HT. This incredible Packard was entered
into the 2013 Portland Oregon Roadster Show in March of
2013. It earned 1st place in the category of "Best
Restored vehicle, 1949 to 1957". There were many
cars in that class that it beat out for first place! 41,836
miles on the odometer.
Beautiful frame on restoration two years ago. This beautiful
Packard was painted the original factory blue and white
paint that came on the car in 1956. The ID plate has paint
code MG. Gorgeous blue and white interior. The ID plate
has interior code 82. No rips, tears or blemishes on the
interior at all. The interior is immaculate. Brand new
dashboard with proper correct stitching. The metal portion
of the dash is the correct gold color. The trunk was completely
redone and is absolutely flawless. The body has no dents
and the paint is incredible. The paint has many layers
of clear coat for a high gloss shine. Both bumpers and
grill were all re-chromed two years ago and the chrome
is outstanding! The grill is the correct gold color.
This model 400 is equipped
with power steering and power brakes. Original AM radio
was completely rebuilt and works well. Original heater
with optional passenger under seat heater and blower works
well. New heater core just installed under neath the passenger
The original engine is matching numbers to the frame and
was rebuilt about 4 years ago.The transmission was also
completely rebuilt at the same time.
Engine serial number 5687-3752. All receipts on the engine
and transmission rebuild. Kanter Supply supplied the engine
re build kit. The 374 cubic inch original engine that
this car came with was rebuilt by The Race Shop in Richmond,
Virginia. The engine was bored 30 over. Block magnifluxed
and boiled. Crank and cam shaft re ground. New pistons,
rings, bearings and seals. New lifters, hardened rods,
new valve springs and the heads were shaved. Re surfaced
flywheel. Carburetor rebuilt. (Daytona carburator kit).
Distributor, power steering pump, fuel pump and water
pump are all rebuilt. The previous ownwer who did the
restoration replaced the oil pump with an upgraded Oldsmobile
442 rebuilt oil pump. Engine has about 700 miles on it.
The engine runs real strong with plenty of power. No oil
burning and no smoke out the tail pipe at all. The gas
tank was boiled and sealed.
Front end suspension rebuilt using rebuild kit from Kanter
Supply. Torsion bar suspension all rebuilt with neopreme
bushings. Torsion bar electric box replaced with a solid
state box and well sealed. The electric torsion bar leveling
system works perfect. This model 400 is equipped with
the column mounted electric push button transmission box
for gear selection.
The transmission was rebuilt by Peter Fitch Ultramatics.
The rear end were also rebuilt. Six months ago, I had
the master cylinder and power booster rebuilt and new
rear shock absorbers installed. The Packard stops excellent
with no pulling to the left or right. Wide whitewall radial
ties from Diamondback Tire Company are mounted on the
stock rims and stock Packard hub caps. Not much mileage
on the newer tires. All electrical works perfect. All
windows roll up and down well. Original front windshield
and rear glass. No delamination anywhere on the glass.
The only thing that does not work is the clock.
This car is stunning and there are not vey many of these
400 two door hard top cars around in this type of condition.
The 1956 Packards had a much more reliable and better
transmission than the 1955 models. Also, the 1956 models
had the larger much more powerful 374 cubic inch engine
than the 1955 model Packards with their 352 cubic inch
engines. If you are looking for a stunning rare antique
luxury automobile with class and power, then this is a
good addition to any car collectors collection! Offered
