1955
Chevrolet 4-Door Sedan
For Sale By Owner
Offered For $29,500.00 ~ All Trades Considered
|
| |
| 1955
Chevrolet 4-Door Sedan. This car was originally
built in 1958 --- basic stock. Cruises at
70 mph with one hand. The top has been chopped
3-1/2", shaved door handles, slammed
1957 Lincoln headlights, 1956 Packard tail
lights, rear bumper is a 1956 Chevrolet
Wagon. Louvered hood, vinyl top, fender
skirts, lake pipes, custom grille. The exterior
features real hand striping --- old school
flames, spider webbing and dice theme ---
very 1950's. The exterior paint is in excellent
condition --- Pearl White with a vinyl top.
This car is very straight, all chrome is
in excellent condition. Power antennae is
available --- needs to be installed, aftermarket
radio is also available, but needs installation.
The interior is Black vinyl, Diamond Tuck,
and was originally constructed in 1959.
Features massive swivel bucket seats that
look more like living room easy chairs.
Headliner, door panels and rear deck are
Black vinyl as well. Black carpeting front
to rear including trunk, which features
an interior release mechanism. Spare, jack
and tools are available. The car also has
a new GM 350 crate motor with 12-month warranty.
New Edelbrock manifold, harmonic balancer,
belts and hoses. Holley carb, plugs and
wires. Electronic ignition, new battery
and cables. Re-built Turbo 350 transmission
has been re-sealed and cleaned --- flex
plate, starter and Lokar shifter. Chrome
alternator, water pump, pulleys --- new
battery and fuel pump. Car also has front
disc brakes, stock rear end, headers and
new gangster whitewalls with flipper hubcaps.
This car has an interesting history, and
was featured in Hot Rod Magazine Custom
Car Special Edition, July 1984 (See article
below). I have some extra parts that go
with the car. Dummy spots, 1958 Lancer hubcaps,
CB radio, miscellaneous trim parts, etc.
Speedometer cable is missing. Stuart Warner
engine measurement gauges are operational
and intact. Fuel gauge does not work. All
lights, exterior and interior are operational.
I also have receipts for the motor that
was professionally installed, and the Magazine
that documents the car. This car was acquired
in a trade and has a clear Arizona title.
I hate to sell the car, as it is a real
piece of American history. This car is 1950's
style classic lead sled. The real deal!
Just have too many other projects and not
enough time. Offered for $29,500.00 ~ All
Trades Considered. |

FIFTY-FIVE
SURPRISE
A Resurrected Birthday Present,
for Custom Cars Magazine, Special Edition,
July 1984
|
 |
| Old
customs often have interesting histories.
this chopped '55 Chevy four-door sedan was
originally built in 1958 as a surprise birthday
present for a 16-year old boy. His father
bought the car, took it to a customizing
shop, and told them money was no object.
The car was definitely radical, but the
boy was disappointed it wasn't a more popular
two-door. |
| |
| Barry
Atkins of Columbia, Connecticut, found the
car in rought condition many years later.
he decided a chopped four-door would still
make a pretty neat custom, so he brought
the car back to life. Fortunately, Barry
owns Atkins Action Auto so all the bodywork
and paint were done at his shop. |
| |
| The
top was chopped 3-1/2", and the suspension
was lowered 6" in back and 5"
in front. The headlights are canted '57
Lincoln units, and the taillights are from
a '56 Packard. The rear bumper was taken
from a '56 Chevy wagon. The black vinyl
interior was originally constructed in 1959
and features massive swivel buckets that
look more like living room easy chairs.
The engine is a 265 ci '56 Corvette with
a Duntov camshaft. |
| |
| Maybe
the original owner didn't like the custom
job very much, but Barry and his family
get a lot of enjoyment out of this resurrected
Chevy! |
